Our Labor Day Adventure

The Drive to Athens

We went to Athens on Labor Day to see our Lake Properties...we, being, Karen and Shannon and I, and Lisa and Elizabeth. The only vehicle big enough for all of us is Grandma's van, so that's the ride we take when we all go somewhere together. Lisa and Karen were the chauffeurs for the trip.

Once we got to Athens, it was time to eat, so Elise's old workplace, "Bean and Burger" was our first stop. With your meal, you get free beans and ice cream from the bean and freezer bars.

Around the Ranch
After lunch, we drove over to Safari Waters Ranch, and walked around our properties, and around the lakes. Here we are, standing in front of Trophy Lake, the lake our land is on.

This trip, we saw some zebras, deer, and an elk. On our trek on Lisa's 5-acre plot, we saw a beautiful butterfly flying around us. Shannon even brought home a couple souvenirs... ticks!

Treats on the way home
On the way home, we stopped at our favorite ice cream store, Braums, and got a snack.

It was a fun day, but tiring because of the heat and humidity. Maybe soon, we can go out there again and go fishing. The lakes have black bass, crappie, perch, yellow and mud catfish. And since we are property owners, we don't need a fishing license!

Three Weeks Later

Now we've been here three weeks, and have unpacked lots and lots of boxes. We pretty much have the things we need from the storage now, and and are working on unpacking all the boxes in the garage. I started up my lawn mower today, and sitting idle for four years; it didn't take too long to get it going again. My office is starting to look better, but I still have some unpacking and organizing to do, but we are happy in this little house (yes, it really is little). But one wireless router will supply wireless internet to the whole house, and I don't have to run cables all throughout the house like before.

Shannon has started making friends after one week of school, and Hallie loves being an inside dog now. Although it has been hot during the days, we barbequed outside tonight, and even ATE outside too...it was really a nice night. Karen is happy to be back here with her family again, and this week turned in applications to substitute for Richardson and Dallas school districts. We bought a new washer and dryer this week, and will have it delivered on Wednesday....since the laundry outlets are in the garage, we had to clear some room today for them.

Unpacking and Setting Up

On Saturday, Daniel and his friend, and Dave and Dianna Crest came and helped us unload the trailer. We had it unloaded in 4 hours, but things were everywhere. There were a few furniture casualties, but we survived. The organ ended up with three broken keys that we'll have to get fixed, and a couple small shelves broke apart.
We started organizing and setting things up during the following week, as you can see in the pictures, although all of our kitchen stuff was in our storage, and we have had to look for them and make due without until we found them.

The Move to Texas

After 3 long days of driving, we finally arrived in Richardson on Thursday night. We spent the night with Karen's mom, and the next day went to our new residence for utility, and internet, and phone, etc. hookups. Our moving trailer was delivered on Friday, and we unloaded a few things and just put them in the house.
